The Growing Cycle
From seed to harvest.
And back again.
The Herbs2Hand system is a continuous cycle — microgreens in days, plantlets over weeks, mature herbs on the window. Always something growing. Always something ready.
The Philosophy
What are our microgreens?
Microgreens come from regular edible plant seeds (like pea, radish, basil, broccoli), but instead of growing them to full plants, you harvest them very early, just after the first leaves appear. They are packed with concentrated flavour and nutrients, often containing higher vitamin and antioxidant levels than their fully grown counterparts. The Herbs2Hand system captures this, then extends it: the strongest seedlings are grown on into full herbs.

Step by Step
The full growing cycle
Four phases. One continuous loop. Illustrated with red mustard — though the same cycle applies across the system.
Days 1–4
Germination
Sow. Close the lid. Wait.
Fill the tray with around 2-3cm of growing medium. Moisten thoroughly (don't drench) and sprinkle a generous amount of seeds on the surface. Pop on lid, and remove when the seedlings are nearly touching (around 3 days).
Days 7–14
Microgreen Harvest
Harvest most. Keep a few.
From days 7–14, cotyledons are fully open and flavour is at its peak. Snip cleanly at the base — but set aside four to six strong seedlings. These grow on into plantlets, beginning the next phase of the cycle.
Week 2 onwards
Plantlet Mode
Let the kept seedlings grow on.
The kept seedlings continue in the Linea's deeper herb insert (or transfer to a Stelo unit). Roots develop, true leaves appear. Keep the reservoir topped up and give it good light.
And repeat
Replant the Linea
The cycle continues.
With the plantlets transferred, clean the Linea, refresh the coir, and sow again. The Linea is always sowing or growing microgreens. The Stelo always has something further along. There's always something ready to eat.

In Practice
Always something at every stage.
Once the cycle is established, there's no gap between harvests. While the Linea germinates a new sow, the Stelo has herbs from the previous cycle ready to pick. Add a second Linea and you can run microgreen and plantlet modes simultaneously.
